Overview

Clomid is clomiphene citrate, a SERM best known as a fertility drug that triggers ovulation in women.

How it works

Clomiphene blocks estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus. The brain reads this as low estrogen and releases more GnRH, LH and FSH, which in men raises testosterone and sperm production.

Clinical reference

The label for women is 50 mg a day for five days per cycle. In men, doctors prescribing off-label commonly use 12.5 to 50 mg a day or every other day, adjusted with testosterone and estradiol bloodwork.
